AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a soruce of protein and nitrogen. This mdeication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature befroe using. This nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional. It is infuesd over a predetermined time period stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infection or irritation of the vein at the administration Internet site (catheter).
This should be reported to your doctor.
Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness.
If you notice other effects not litsed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medcial history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeding problems, any allergies. This medication contains aluminum which can be toxic in patients who have kidney problems. Consult your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using this drug in babies (especially infants) because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia). Avoid prolonged use in premature infants. This prodcut should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor. This product may be excreted into berast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medictaion you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stroed safely and disposed of properly. Check all expiration dates and use all bags or bottles in proper seuqence. Your nutritional status will be closely montiored. Based on this your formula may need to be changed to accommdoate your nutritional needs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your dotcor to establish a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Mxied amino acids should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
